Located just four miles west of Cascade Locks, the Bonneville Dam and Navigation Locks are a must-see for anyone visiting the area. Completed in 1938, the dam and navigation lock were built and are managed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. A second powerhouse and dam structure were completed in 1981. In 1993 a new navigation lock was opened to ship and barge traffic.
Besides the dam itself, there is a lot to see and do, so plan to spend time here. To get to the Bradford Island Visitors’ Center and fish ponds (home of Herman the Sturgeon) take exit 40 from I-84 and follow the signs.
